In a stark motel room on the edge of the Mojave Desert, sits a young woman, May, while a rough-spoken rodeo performer, Eddie, sits fiddling with his riding gear. When he attempts to console May, distressed by his frequent absences and love affairs, she suddenly attacks him. As the recriminations pour out, the desperate nature of their relationship becomes apparent—they cannot get along, or be together, yet neither can subdue their burning passion. The desperation of their situation is narrated by a ghostly old man who sits in a rocking chair sipping whiskey. It is evident that any respite is temporary and that the past which haunts them, will keep them ever fools for love.
