The International ‘Ukulele Contest is the only ‘ukulele competition in Hawai‘i where amateur musicians from all over the world come together to compete. The event’s goal is to encourage, educate and develop skills among musicians, especially youth. The hula show following the Contest is an opportunity to further the exchange and friendship between Japan and Hawai‘i featuring performances by hula students from Japan and professional dancers in Hawai‘i.

Entry Begins: Saturday March 5th, 2022 5pm (Hawaii Time)
Entry Deadline: Friday May 13th, 2022 5pm (Hawaii Time)

Online Live Stream Winner Announcement: Saturday May 28th, 2022 6pm-8pm (Hawaii Time)
Live web stream will broadcast on Ukulele Picnic Official YouTube Channel.

PRIZES

Finalist Prizes (Category Prizes): 1st place for each division will receive a premium ‘ukulele from Kanileʻa ʻUkulele. 2nd and 3rd place for each division will receive a prize.

MVP Prize: 3 night stay at Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani Hotel and the opportunity to perform on stage at the next Ukulele Picnic in Hawaii.

KZOO Radio Prize: The opportunity to have your original song broadcasted on KZOO Radio for 12 months.

Special Jury Award: Given to only one (1) contestant from among all qualified finalists for his/her use and mastery of Hawaiian mele (song) in Hawaiian language during performances.

Best Vocal Award: Given to only one (1) contestant from the vocal category.

FREE entry GIFT for KEIKI (ages 3 - 11): First 50 entries (ages 3-11 except GROUP category) will receive a Kiwaya "pic-lele" soprano ukulele sponsored by the Keiki Ukulele of Japan. This gift will be given on a first-come, first-served basis only to all eligible entries: children ages 3 years to 11 years of age, except GROUP category. The gifts are subject to availability.
