Treasures of Devotion: Human Connection in Secular & Sacred Art

  • The Honolulu Museum of Art 900 South Beretania Street Honolulu, HI, 96814 United States (map)

Throughout the centuries, artists have sought to express emotional and spiritual concepts through the artistic methods available to them. A focus on meticulous artistry and the use of radiant light, rich colors, and exquisite materials—such as glossy oil paint, silk, and gold leaf—can create visual splendor and evoke heavenly or abstract realms.

Exhibit is comprised of selections from the museum’s European and American collection. The items explore how artists from the fourteenth century to the present day communicate some of the myriad ways we express devotion, including through connections to family, community, faith, and to our shared human spirit.
