This “mind-mending” concert will feature traditional shakuhachi honkyoku meditative music along with contemporary compositions. University of Hawai’i dance professor Peiling Kao will choreograph and dance to the shakuhachi composition Byoh, by the Japanese composer Ryōhei Hirose, and UH composition department PhD candidate Ju Yi Chow will perform in the contemporary shakuhachi and cello piece, Shirabe and Oki for Eastern Bamboo, Western Strings, by Akihiko Takeuchi.
