10 Sessions, every Wednesday from October 6–December 8
Ghislaine will guide you through each step of creating a unique shibori weaving based on her 30 years of weaving and dyeing textiles in Hawai‘i. She guarantees you won’t get lost. Her exquisite weavings, functional and non-functional, have been widely exhibited and are both in use and on display in private collections.
Woven shibori sounds complicated but it is really quite simple. First, weave fabric with a pattern of temporary weft threads woven along a permanent plain-weave cotton background. Next, take the cloth off the loom and gather the temporary threads to create a resist based on your selected woven pattern. And this is when the fun really begins, as we add color using an indigo vat and dye pots of various plant materials. Your finished piece will be your own unique creation.
