Intro to Prismatic Palette Acrylic Painting with Marina Borovok (6 sessions-Wednesdays)
Learn painting techniques for prismatic colors. Prismatic colors are the colors that can be seen when white light goes through a prism. The class will work with primary (red, yellow, blue) and secondary (orange, violet, and green) hues. The value scale of hues will be the essence of the pre-mixing colors.
Joy of Pastels with Wayne Takazono (6 sessions Mon & Fri)
Explore the brilliance and richness of color that may be achieved with this medium. Beginners and those with more experience will create artworks from still lifes and photos.
Introduction to Film Photography with Cable Hoover (4 sessions, Wednesdays in Aug.)
Introduction to Film Photography with instructor Cable Hoover (Beginner level) is designed to introduce students to the methods, equipment and practice of analog film photography. This course will guide students through the essentials of film photography, from selecting the right camera and film to understanding the exposure triangle and loading film.
Sketch with HT25 Artist Hayv Kahraman
A morning sketching session with HT25 visiting artist Hayv Kahraman
Meet the artist and talk story with fellow sketchers (all skill levels welcome). Kahraman’s work addresses radicalized gender and body politics, migrant consciousness, and the marginal spaces of diasporic life, drawing from her personal history as an Iraqi émigré first to Europe and then the United States. Her canvases often feature female figures, which she views as embodiments of a collective experience, juxtaposed with various botanicals. This sketch session is not instructional but, rather, an opportunity to gather and share space.
Watercolor Painting Class with Dwayne Adams: Learning from the Renaissance (3 Sundays: June 2,9,16)
This 3-session class (Sundays for three weeks) will look at what we can learn about composition, color, and technique from the Renaissance masters. From that we will see how to create watercolor paintings that feature depth, drama, and mystery, and create a strong sense of place.
Watercolor Painting Class with Dwayne Adams: 6 Sessions - Begins April 23

DAC teaching artist Dwayne Adams will be leading a 6-week long course on watercolor painting beginning April 23. The classes cover everything from basics like how to tape paper down to subjects such as how to paint in washes, creatively blend colors, design painting layouts, and how to handle values. Beginning paint materials are available for purchase for a nominal amount for those with no experience.

Creativity Takes Courage! -Matisse
Students will engage in drawing and painting exploration that will inspire them to learn about Kandinsky, Thiébaud, Jackson Pollock, Matisse, and other famous artists, as well as finding the creative artist within. Using the tools and techniques of charcoal, pastel, pens and paint media, students will improve their skills and free their artistic expression. Hinamatsuri Making - Ceramic Workshop
Hinamatsuri - March 3rd is Girl’s day! In Japan, every year on this day, families pray for the happiness and prosperity of their girls and celebrate by displaying Hina-ningyo (Hina-dolls). Let’s celebrate girls by creating our own ceramic Hina - dolls and learn some important sculpting techniques. All ages and all levels welcome!
Itajime (folded and clamped) Shibori Art Class
Explore the multilayered geometric designs produced by the itajime shibori tradition of folding, clamping, and dying fabrics. In this three-session workshop, students can create a collection of cloth samples, upcycle a wardrobe item or create simple wall-hangings. A visit to the museum will supplement demonstrations and provide inspiration for your work. The dyeing process will be completed during the workshop, but students will need to wash out fabrics at home.

The Tuesday Portrait Drawing Group is a weekly, artist-run, uninstructed drawing session with live models, a supportive group of artists and plenty of creative spirit! Artists are asked to bring their own equipment and supplies. DAC provides tables and chairs, but artists may bring their own easels. The focus of this group session is on capturing the portrait of the clothed model, who will be maintaining the pose for 2.5 hours (with breaks).

Printing Flowers Art Class
Inspired by Rebecca Louise Law: Awakening, this special one-session offering will focus on printing flowers. Artists will collect flowers from the Art School's beautiful courtyard to use for monoprinting images that emphasize texture, color, and design.

Baby Hula Cultural Immersion with Kumu Mālia Helelā
We believe that the littlest keiki can dance hula and have welcomed dancers as young as two weeks old!
Caregivers dance together with their keiki so that everybody learns something! Most hula are performed seated, so keiki can explore hula from the safety of a familiar lap. The 30 minute class time is just right for developing attention spans.
Soap Making Naturally
This soap making class will be simple enough for you to want to make soap bars for yourself and your loved ones forever.
In the saponification process of making soap, we will use quality oils from plants blended with an alkali (sodium hydroxide, which all soaps contain). No preservatives, no shelf extenders, no chemical detergents, no hardeners or synthetic lathering agents -- in other words, no harsh ingredients will be used. Your homemade soaps will not only benefit your skin but also the environment.
There will be an additional supply fee of $45 payable to the instructor on the day of class. The supply fee includes all oils and a silicone soap mold.
What to Bring: $45 supply fee, One bath towel, A pair of comfortable water proof gloves (disposable gloves ok)
Open Studio Soap Making
This open studio has been created to facilitate returning students who wish to make another batch of soap without having to provide their own oils and equipment.
The use of soap colorants, an additional component in soap making, will be presented. All supplies (oils and colorants) and equipment will be provided. Technical guidance from the instructor will be available to support your soap making production. The cleaning of used equipment will be expected. Participants must have taken a previous soap making class either with Ghislaine or with Steve from The Soap Box.
There will be an additional supply fee of $30 payable to the instructor on the day of class. The supply fee includes all oils, lye, and purified water
